Working Online Has Its Advantages: Here’s 35 Reasons Why

When you think about working online, what’s the first thing that comes to mind? I thought about this question a few days ago and decided to ask a group of people on WebAnswers for their opinions about the many benefits of working from home. After engaging in a really exciting conversation with the members on this paid forum posting site, we were able to come up with 35 reasons on why people should consider working online.  Hopefully today’s post will allow others to look at the brighter side of things when considering remote employment.

35.  Ability to multi task- How many of you are too tired to cook when you come home from work? With an online job, you have the advantage of cooking and working at the same time.

34. Great alternative for people who live in areas with very few job opportunities

33.  College students can still work and still visit their families for the holidays- Back when I was in college, I worked for Walgreens and my manager at that time scheduled me to work on Christmas and the day after even though I requested it off. Staying in VA was not an option for me when all of my family lived in New Jersey.  Boy, do I wish I knew about online jobs back in ’03.

32. Flexible Hours- Most online employees have the ability to set their own hours so that they can balance out everyday life vs. work.

31. No worries about “I don’t have anything to wear”

30. Cut back on childcare expenses- The costs of full time childcare is way too expensive so you could save money by sending your child to day care for a half day while you are working.

29. This is a lifesaver for “idiots” who can’t seem to pass a drug test… lol- Unfortunately; there are many people who are having a hard time seeking employment because they’re unable to pass a drug test. Although, I’m not supporting this type of activity, I feel that this is a great alternative for junkies to obtain a job since a lot of online employers aren’t issuing drug tests.

28. Save money on transportation costs- Gas prices are seriously off the chain right now, so if you have the ability to work online, you better thank God for being able to do so. Others who don’t have a car can save money on bus fare, taxi expenses, and commutes on the train which can be very expensive.

27. Ability to sleep later- Most online employees don’t work a typical 9-5 so this is great for the non early birds to sleep a little later until their shift starts.

26. Least likely to be late for work- No rush hour traffic or being late because you had a bad hair day

25. You will not have to leave out in bad weather to go to work- I don’t know about you but, the ability to not leave your house during a snow storm or a rainy day seems great to me J

24. Ability to catch up on all of your favorite TV shows and still work.

23.  Able to work independently online

22. No co worker related drama- I sure don’t miss the drama of working with people who sit around and gossip all day.

21. Able to listen to music of your choice- I don’t know about you, but I can only tolerate certain genres of music for only a short amount of time before I go crazy.

20. Facebook will not be banned from your work computer- Many employers are blocking social networking sites so that employees can actually do what they are paid to do. Although this is understandable, you would not have to worry about this when working online.

19. Great tax write offs- By working online, you can deduct a lot of everyday  expenses such as internet costs, the costs of supplies, rent, etc. You can read tips about tax write off for telecommuters at the wahm site.

18. You can earn more money than working at a fast food restaurant and do not have to work as hard.

17. Less stressful

16. Work at your own pace- Although you will still have to meet deadlines and complete your job in a timely manner, you generally will be able to comfortably perform job duties.

15. Will not have to take a pay cut for the day because your child is home sick from school.

14. Enjoy a glass of wine on a rough day- A sip of Moscato can go an extremely long way during stressful day on the job. Side note: Drink moderately if you’re going to do it.

13. You will not have to wait for someone to cover your shift in order for your shift to be over.

12. You will have the ability to take naps when needed.

11. Ability to dedicate a little more time on your hobbies.

10. Spend more time with your family.

9. Take vacations when needed- The good thing about working online is that you can bring work with you so even if you decided to getaway for a few days, you can bring work with you.

8.  Less likely to get written up- Unless you are just not doing your job at all, you will less likely get written up for things such as texting on the job .

7. More time to focus on personal goals that you would like to achieve.

6. Save money on food- If you are at home, you can save money by making your lunches as opposed to eating take out and buying sodas from the soda machine at work.

5. Pregnant women will be able to work online without the lapse in pay when they go on maternity leave.

4. Ideal job for those who are claustrophobic- People with this type of phobia are not able to work in congested environments for a long time so an online job would allow them to work in their own personal space.

3.  Working online will allow you to spend more time with your children.

2. Will not have to use public restrooms- Although this may not be an issue to some people, there are a lot of people who are grossed out by this.

1.  You are in control of your own life.

  1. Lots of good reasons there that I hadn’t actually ever thought of as being a benefit. I really like being able to save money on food, gas, and listen to what music I want! I hear ya on only being able to take so much of one type of music on a given day … brings back bad memories of my days working in an office :)
