6 Qualities That Effective Affiliate Marketers Must Have

Affiliate marketing is a type of commissions selling. You advertise a product that is sold by other companies to get a commission for each sale you make. Affiliate marketing is one of the fastest growth industries online.

The reasons for this are not far to see. There are affiliate programs that tie in with practically every niche, promoting them requires no direct selling, no inventory is required on the part of the promoter, they can be advertised in a wide variety of ways and much of the bookkeeping is handled by the affiliate manager, not by the affiliate himself.

There are a few qualities that effective affiliate marketers must have, however. These include:

1. A successful website. This will be the focal point of all your marketing efforts. Naturally, in order to convert a certain percentage of your traffic into buyers, you must have some traffic to begin with. Therefore, you’ll want to build an attractive looking blog or website and make it even more appealing by adding valuable and constantly updated content to it. If you have money to spare, you can get someone to build your site for you, but of course, this will cut into your overall profits.

2. Expert promotion skills. Remember that you will have to promote not only the product of which you are an affiliate, but your website or blog itself. Of course you can pay for advertising, but this too will cut into your potential profits.

3.  Products to promote. This is one of the easiest aspects of affiliate marketing, because there are affiliate products that fit in with every niche. You should do your research, however, and choose products that you can recommend without hesitation.

4. Some basic software. Not a lot of this is required. It does help, however, to have a good link cloaker, such as Macfilink for the Mac or Cloak and Tracker for the Mac and PC.

Such software is handy for several reasons. If you create a viral ebook or special report into which you insert your affiliate links, you may be worried about the links going out of date. If, however, you cloak your links, you can update them on your end whenever you like. Cloaking can also make links shorter and friendlier-looking. Finally, cloaking can help keep people from stripping your affiliate ID off of your link when making a purchase in the misguided belief that it will save them money!

5.  Good mathematical skills. There are a number of statistics you will want to pay attention to, such as what percentage of your visitors become customers, the conversion rate for each affiliate program, the value of each visitor, the amount of commission you expect to be paid from each merchant, and each individual product’s performance. There are also mathematical formulas by which you configure your revenue per visitor, which is the commission divided by the number of unique visitors.

6. Finally, you will need to have either an outside income or the support of your family, because launching an effective affiliate marketing business will take time and effort. You will also need to believe in yourself and see the whole process as one of helping others first and foremost rather than attempting to make a quick buck.

You might get the impression that the Mac is the forgotten stepchild of the Internet marketing industry. But did you know that some of the top names in Internet Marketing use Macs? 1. Maybe I should give affiliate marketing another try. I haven’t had any real success with it in the past. But after reading this, I may give it another go. Thanks!

  2. Hi Lisa,

Thanks for your comment. Any area of Internet Marketing takes time to achieve success in, but I do believe that affiliate marketing is one of the easiest, since you can promote other successful products rather than trying to figure out how to make your own product a success.

  3. This is great information for those interested in learning more about affiliate marketing. There needs to be more good information about affiliate marketing rather than the common “Pay $40.00 and We Will Show You How” ads. Affiliate Marketing doesn’t cost a dime aside from website setup and other things you mentioned.

  4. This is very good info all affiliates should follow. Another important thing an affiliate must know is learning to stay away from promoting overly hyped products that claim you can make a really big amount of money in 24 or 48 hours. Too many people are promoting them and most don’t work.
